Blues Piano 1A (term 1)
Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.00pm. 12 classes - first class 19 September 2017.
Course Nos MJP067A - £130 (£105 concessions) all 12 classes TBC

The first (and only) weekly blues piano class in the UK started life at Goldsmiths College in 1990. From September 2011 it has taken place at Morley College:

The approach is practical, students playing in small groups on several acoustic pianos (singly and together).

A hands-on introduction for competent pianists to the basics of blues piano, focussing mainly on Chapters 1–3 of the tutor’s book Improvising Blues Piano (Schott Music).

In the first term you will learn some blues pieces, improve your left-hand technique and develop right-hand improvising skills in the 'easy' keys of C, F and G.

The class also acts as an introduction to improvisation and is good preparation for some of the jazz piano classes available at Morley.

A tutor's signature is required to enrol - attend the Enrolment/advice session at Morley in September, where you can talk to Tim or other tutors to find out the best course for you...

Blues Piano 1B (term 2)
Tuesdays 6.30 - 8.00pm. 10 classes - first class 9 January 2018.
Course Nos MJP067B - £110 (£90 concessions) all 10 classes TBC.

The second term of the course is suitable for those with previous blues piano experience (or those who have successfully completed BLUES PIANO 1A).

A wider range of keys and left-hand styles will be covered. You will be encouraged to develop your improvisation skills, internalise phrases and techniques, combine pieces and tranpose ideas from one key to another.
