Since the famous 1980s TV programme, ROCKSCHOOL have developed an interesting range of published music. Their latest venture, published in 2001, is a graded POPULAR PIANO exam syllabus which features eight books, each containing six pieces, one in each of the following styles:

blues/gospel - jazz - classic - pop/rock - world - film

Candidates have to prepare three pieces, one of which may be of their own choice (outside the syllabus). No improvisation is built into the pieces, but candidates can if they wish include optional solos, and there is a separate sight reading/improvisation test.

In a departure from the Associated Board, players are encouraged to adapt the pieces to their own personal style. Whether or not you are planning to enter for an exam, all the books contain an interesting selection of pieces, commissioned from a wide range of composers including Christopher Norton and film composers Debbie Wiseman and Stephen Warbeck.

Tim Richards has six pieces included as follows:

CDs are included with each book with recordings of all pieces, technical exercises and samples of aural and other tests. The Rockschool exams are accredited by TRINITY COLLEGE LONDON.

The books retail at £13.95 (grades 1-4) and £14.95 (grades 5-6), complete with CDs.
