Thu 31 August - Sun 4 September 2022

I've been running this annual jazz piano course  for over 25 years. Nikki Yeoh has been on board since the beginning and is now doing a great job as course director. Other tutors include John Crawford and Robert Mitchell. Expect 5 days of intensive tuition + record a tune of your choice with bass and drums on the final day.

Premises Studios Jazz Piano Week

MORLEY COLLEGE, Waterloo, London
Sat 16 and Sat 23 July 2022 (11am-4pm) - FULLY SUBSCRIBED

This annual short course is up and running again, after a two-year enforced break because of Covid. It’s part of Morley Summer School and takes place on two Saturdays. Get experience playing with bass and drums and record a tune of your choice in a professional recording studio.

On the first day you will play your tune to the group and I will help you achieve the most effective arrangement, give suggestions for chord voicings and tips for improvisation. You are free to choose a tune in ANY style - jazz, blues, funk, Latin, etc… but you should be prepared to change the way you play it if necessary, to suit the trio setting.

The second Saturday will be held in the studio. You'll take turns to record your chosen tune and get feedback from a professional drummer, bass player and studio engineer. The recording will be yours to keep and use as a demo.

The course is reasonably priced at £175 – much cheaper than booking your own studio, hiring musicians, etc…

A range of repertoire is covered, with full use being made of the excellent facilities (pianos, practice rooms, etc). Price includes accommodation and full board.

The next course is scheduled for 1-4 June 2023

ONLINE course for Piano Teachers - 30 Oct, 6 Nov, 20 Nov, 27 Nov 2022
Four Sundays (11:00-1:00 and 14:00-16:00 each day).

Tim’s annual course for piano teachers is now hosted online by BENSLOW MUSIC.

The course de-mystifies the mechanics of playing jazz, in a style that enables it to be passed from teacher to pupil. The syllabus (Grades 1-5) will be examined in detail, with insight into the skills required for candidates and how to teach them. Help will be given with interpretation, improvisation, and the basics of jazz theory and harmony. No previous experience of jazz is required.
